Contagious Curiosity
Has someone ever shared a thought or idea with you that sent you down a rabbit hole? Has someone ever shared their experience with you and it caused you to explore what that experience could look like for you? Is curiosity contagious?
I hope so and I hope that I am a super spreader.
This week I started two posts that I hope to be Patient Zero for others in the future and I'd love your input to help round them out.
I am working to pull together more of these kinds of posts to one day make public for a larger audience and pay it forward. I'd love to have your feedback and ideas. The comments are open just for you and your thoughts. Shout out to Greg for dropping some knowledge and authentic thoughts about his own experience with curiosity and how it has led him to the career he has now as a professional storyteller. I've seen him in action and there are traces of curiosity all over the place.
- Best Book I Read This Week: The Sovereign Individual - Managing The Transition To The Information Age - This book was written in 1999, but the predictions and narratives feel current (except for using Bill and Monica as an example of scandal in the White House.) Peter Theil wrote the new forward for the book and I think it asks some amazing questions about our current society, our country's leadership, and our future in the technological future.
- Best Video I Watched This Week: I realized this week that I knew how glass was made, but I didn't know how a mirror was made. It took me a few search results, but I found an incredible video of taking a glass window and turning it into a reflective mirror. I had no idea that that was how this happened.
- Best Podcast I Listened To This Week: Why Did The Future Arrive First In Russia? For the second week in a row, Hidden Forces put out my favorite podcast. In this one, Demetri interviews Peter Pomerantsev, a Soviet-born British journalist and it is an incredible conversation that I took furious notes on. The way they unpack the role of propaganda, identity, and mythology in modern society and politics is truly incredible.
Best Comment of the Week: Shout out to Greg for his comment on last week's post Curiosity With Constraints. My favorite line was,
"A while back I realized that if I want to be the most creative person in the room, I need to be the most curious. When I ask good questions that come from a sincere desire to understand, then I'm going to be able to see dots that others don't see."
I hope you are having a great week and that you are excited about the days ahead. I am going to be sharing a very special post next week and I can't wait to get your feedback, it's been a couple of decades in the works!
