Welcome To Make Room
If you're receiving this email it is because you are one of the first ten people to take the leap and join this experiment in collective knowledge and I just want to say thank you. I've been working on this idea since last summer and it really means a lot to me that you were willing to jump in and encourage me with your participation and vote of confidence. Truly, thank you.
Now, what the heck does it mean to be a member here besides being the only ones able to leave a comment on a blog post? What exactly is this idea going to become besides Andy writing blog posts about his life? I'm glad you asked!
The Monthly Focus
Each month, I am going to put forward an idea or concept inspired by things I am reading, conversations I am having, and input from you all. The goal in picking one thing to focus on is to take this group and use our varied backgrounds, industries, and personal points of view to unpack how that concept or idea has made an impact on each of us in the past and what trends or patterns we're seeing around it for the future.
For example this month, I'd like to put forward Curiosity as the focus of our conversation and inquiry. With that, here are an initial five questions I am hoping we can explore together and compare notes on:
1) What are the conditions that have led to our most curious time in life?
2) Are we more or less curious now than we used to be? Why?
3) Is curiosity something that can be taken too far?
4) Who is the most curious person you've had the chance to interact with? Who is the most curious person you've ever observed from afar - present-day or historically?
5) What can you do to encourage others to be more curious in their own life? Is it something that can be taught?
To get things started, pick one question and answer it in the comments of this blog.
The Weekly Update
Each Tuesday, I am going to send out an update of the best things that I've read, watched, or listened to for the week relating to the monthly focus. My hope is that they are a good source of inspiration for you and for your contribution to our collective knowledge. I'll also include the best things that you all have shared through comments or by emailing me directly.
The Monthly Meet-Up
Finally, each month, I am going to schedule a time for any and all of us to come together and have a moderated conversation about the monthly focus and share anything new that we've unlocked as we digested the content shared and created together.
Down the road, I am also hoping to be able to have some special guests join these meet-ups and share their experience with the focus of the month and how it has affected their lives and careers.
That is the loose outline of what I am imagining for this group and I hope that you'll give me feedback as we go.
Again, thank you for being here. I am really excited to work together to create a space for honest conversations and for diligent inquiry. Let's Make Room for Many more to join us in the future.
Best,
Andy
